The finding that the satisfaction is not in the show
Across several decades of television studies the same pair of results kept surfacing: these bonds are extremely common among regular viewers, and the strength of the bond predicts enjoyment better than the quality of the programme does.
It says the satisfaction is not in the writing, it is in the accumulation. A show that is not very good, watched consistently, produces a stronger feeling than a good show watched occasionally. This is why commitment to a mediocre series is not a failure of taste, and it is the most consistently replicated and least widely known finding in the entire field.
