A defined period in which a player can change clubs, which turned football's summer into a calendar with a plot.
The league-world shelf holds the arrangement rather than any participant in it, and the transfer window is the arrangement at its most concentrated: a fixed window, a deadline everyone knows by heart, and a set of dates on which the shape of the year can still change. A club is a relationship, a player is a relationship, and the window is a cosmology - it has a shape, it closes, and everyone can say how many days are left without looking anything up.
